I’m fully prepared to get roasted for this take but I think more people should watch Adam Ruins Everything. Not only to learn from its facts (95% of which are “capitalism is behind like every problem in the world” and there’s also an entire episode that argues for police abolition), but to learn from its rhetorical style too. One of the only things strong enough to overpower people’s kneejerk reaction to being told they’re wrong is the allure of learning unintuitive fun facts and being right about something that most people are misinformed about
My conservative parents love Adam Ruins Everything. They’ll willingly sit there for half an hour and be told about the cruelty inherent in the prison system because it’s presented in the same way as like, trivia videos. We absolutely have something to learn from that
they also PROVIDE THEIR SOURCES. there are entire episodes they’ve done where they just call themselves out for getting things “wrong”. sometimes the data has changed, sometimes a study is updated. but they go through and make damn sure they’re right. they’re so transparent about why what they’re presenting is factual. in an age where “anti intellectualism” and anti journalism is rampant, this is very important.
